North Central Indiana Sand Volleyball Club (NCIS VBC) is a new beach/sand volleyball club located right here in North Central Indiana! Founded in the Summer of 2015 to continue to train young ladies on a different medium (sand) in order to work on the finer points of the game of volleyball. Sand really improves “reading and reacting” as well as “first step explosion and quickness”. It also helps improve vertical leaping ability as well. This summer hasn’t gone quite to plan, but we are playing doubles and the ladies are loving it. The club plans on extending its USAV membership to year round and we are hoping to play sand throughout the winters. Summer of 2016 we are hoping to field many teams across various age groups. The lack of decent sand courts around our area will NOT stop our goal of offering Sand Volleyball instruction and competition to the local age group volleyball players. This club does NOT have “PROFIT” in mind. It exists solely to foster a life-long love of volleyball.
North Central Indiana Sand Volleyball Club has ties to Cass County VBC (our local indoor club based out of Pioneer HS and ran by their head coach, Rod Nies) as well as to Performance Point VBC (Lafayette Club ran out of the Lafayette YWCA and directed by Dody McIntyre) . Both of these indoor clubs have good coaches and they both stress a small family atmosphere that specializes in building all-around good people in addition to good volleyball players. I would also like to mention Pro Beach Juniors and Empowered Volleyball Academy as we were going to run our little team through them. They do some FANTASTIC TRAINING up in Fort Wayne. Will and Ashley Robbins, Angie Robbins-Gebert and Loren Gebert are heading up the Junior Beach efforts in the northeast part of the state. I’d also like to mention Mike Harvey and FairPlay Volleyball as they have provided me the opportunity to continue playing and coaching on the sand. I really enjoy their leagues and Saturday tourneys. I’ve played many years up there and enjoyed extending coach/player/teammate relationships from indoors to the sand. Finally I would like to give a shout-out to Rich Coleman, who recently won a state title with Carmel HS and is an elite level coach for Team Indiana Volleyball. Rich taught me the game while i played (very sparingly due to athletic department commitments in order to keep my swimming scholarship) at Butler for the Men’s Club program that he founded.
So be on the lookout for NCIS gear and our first doubles team “Little Beaches” coming to a tourney near you.
Thanks,
The Management
